History

The Joint Training Centre for Peace Operations – CAECOPAZ - was founded on 27th. June, 1995, as a first-rate training center for the training of the Argentine personnel assigned to take part in peacekeeping operations. This institution capitalizes on the experience acquired by our country in multinational operations since 1958, maintaining high-minded ideals of peace and global security. CAECOPAZ was created as a response to a need for strategic training that is up to the challenge put forth by the demands presented by today’s world, where the scenarios of peacekeeping operations are becoming more and more complex every day, and involve a great number of actors – both civilian and military – who perform a wide variety of tasks in different environments immersed in unforeseeable situations Although Argentina has contributed troops to peacekeeping operations for over forty years now, it is worth pointing out that since 1992 our country has been profoundly committed to the support of peacekeeping, having deployed contingents of as many as 1,500 personnel in 1994 and participated in operations in former Yugoslavia, Kuwait and Eastern Slavonia Argentina has also taken part in naval operations during the Gulf War and Haiti. We have also carried out humanitarian support operations in Mozambique and Kosovo, as well as air transport support in former Yugoslavia and Cyprus. At present, Argentine contingents have been deployed to UNFICYP (Cyprus). As regards this last mission, Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers from the Armed Forces of Chile, Brazil, and Paraguay, have been invited to participate in the mission, involving a significant local joint venture. The growth of our Centre is accompanied by the fast evolution of today ́s participation in complex and multidimensional modern peace operations. historia
